Random acts of kindness are unplanned, sporadic deeds done with the intention of being kind to other people and the world. In 1982, in Sausalito, California, Anne Herbert wrote the words “practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty” on a placemat.

In today’s overstimulated culture, lack of connection is caused by hectic schedules, many people scarcely look one another in the eye, showing our concern for someone by browsing a Facebook newsfeed and pressing “Like,” and vulnerability and self-expression are still suppressed out of fear of being rejected. Away from the ordinary it seems to have become, too, is kindness.

One of the virtues that Western civilization values the greatest is kindness. Being kind can make us more popular since we favor kind individuals. Further, it has been demonstrated that being kind improves our own wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of others. Random acts of kindness are beneficial for both the doer and the recipient, according to research. It has been demonstrated to have beneficial effects on our physical and mental health as well as to increase our sense of community and unity.

We learn early on to be kind, sensitive, and to treat people how we would like to be treated. However, somewhere along the road, we forget the effect our regular activities might have. It’s critical to often discuss the reasons behind our desire to be kind to others in order to foster gratitude. We can begin by discussing the reasons behind our desire to be kind to others. This encourages kids to take an interest in the charitable acts. Children develop a higher sense of gratitude for their possessions when they observe firsthand that there are those who require our assistance.

Keep the door open for anyone following you. Offer to carry packages for an older person as a gesture of kindness. Give a pregnant woman, elderly passenger, or somebody with a physical disability your seat in the bus. In the drive-through or in the coffee shop, pay for the person in front of you.

Take a moment today to express thanks to someone, whether it be for their help, a great accomplishment, or for having a beneficial impact on your life. This can be purposefully included into your everyday routine by giving thanks, expressing gratitude before meals, or complimenting someone on their service. A simple “Thank you” can have a profound impact on someone’s life.

Being kind spreads easily and has the power to improve the world. Additionally, being nice may improve one’s health in a variety of ways, including by reducing pain, calming anxiety, and tension, and lengthening life. When we are kind to others, we are simultaneously mending ourselves and them.

Being good isn’t about grand gestures and expensive presents; rather, it’s about the thoughtful acts of kindness we add to each day. One way we can contribute today is by performing a random act of kindness.
